BCIC sends a big congratulations to Derek Ling and Cody O'Neil for representing B.C. at its best at the Taiwan International Science Fair, held February 8-15, 2009 in Taipei. Derek and Cody are both Grade 11 students from Kelowna Secondary School, and their project titled "Orbital Forcing: An Astrophysical Solution to the Puzzle of Climate Change" studies the effects of orbital forcing on the Earth's climate through the analysis of astrophysical cycles. Their project won them first prize in the Earth Science category.

Derek and Cody are no strangers to the science fair circuit, having participated in local regional science fairs and the national Canada-Wide Science Fair. Their travels also brought them to Australia before embarking for Taiwan, with the support of the Okanagan Science & Technology Council (OSTEC) through the international science fair exchange program established by the Science Fair Foundation of B.C (SFF BC).

BCIC has a strong relationship with SFF BC as the lead partner in enhancing the delivery of The Science Fair Program across B.C. By bringing scientists into schools, hosting student career fairs, and organizing industry school tours, BCIC and SFF BC are providing students with opportunities to explore and enjoy science.
