High Stakes at Absolute Software

The Absolute Software case focuses on a pivotal moment in the software company's history in August 2002. The company faced a cash flow problem and hard strategic choices including a potential exit strategy and a substantial course issuer bid.

There is great tension in the case as the CEO and CFO are pitted against one another in terms of where they believe the market and the company are headed. In helping the student analyze the situation, the case examines the market for data protection and includes information on Absolute's history and how its products fit a market need. In the end, the student has to analyze the situation and put him- or herself in the shoes of the board and play decision maker for the fate of the entire company.
