Healthy Eating at Your Fingertips with CarrotLines

Your average Save-On Foods carries more than 30 brands of cereal. How do you choose which is right for you? Portalife's CarrotLines iPhone application developed on the reality TV show, Stars of Science, lets consumers create a profile specifying nutritional, lifestyle and allergy attributes. In stores, shoppers can use their iPhone to scan a product's barcode and within seconds retrieve an easy to understand, personalized nutritional profile of the product.

Over the years, BCIC has played an important role in the evolution of founder and CEO Wahiba Chair's CarrotLines application. Chair is a former recipient of a BCIC MBA Access to Commercialization Scholarship, was a top 20 finalist in the 2010 BCIC-New Ventures Competition and has received advice and mentorship from BCIC's knowledgeable team of experts. PortaLife Solutions is also currently one of eight companies taking part the BCIC entrepreneurship@Wavefront program. Chair and Justin MacDonald, Platform Manager, have been working with Wavefront advisors to advance CarrotLines.

Raised in a very health-conscious household, Chair's passion for healthy living started at an early age. "I personally had issues with food labels when grocery
shopping and noticed others around me spending too much time analyzing food packaging," said Chair. "In a society where smart phones are fast becoming the mobile device of choice, I knew there could be an application that would make healthy eating easier. I'm excited to see where this journey leads."
