Kashoo: The evolution of small business accounting software.
Friday, October 5, 2012
The idea of being tied to a desk is off-putting to many. But for an entrepreneur or small business owner on the go, it can make efficiently operating a business that much harder. Especially when being bogged down by your books means taking time away from what you should be doing—running your business.
Enter Kashoo, the iPad app and cloud-based software that makes small business accounting not only less painful, but also doable from anywhere, anytime—all in real time.
Originally started in 2008 by a husband and wife duo when they couldn’t find the perfect accounting solution for their own small business, Kashoo is simple online accounting software that lets small business owners, entrepreneurs and freelancers manage their finances on their own.
Fast-forward a few years and the company has grown exponentially. From making an all-in commitment to the iPad as the next game-changing platform for business management to bringing on full-time CEO Jim Secord, Kashoo is on the forefront of the evolution of small business accounting software. But there still was something missing...
In 2011, after completing Acetech’s Market Penetration Program, Jim brought Kashoo to the BCIC Mentor Program, a province-wide entrepreneurial development program for founders and CEOs of technology ventures within BC.
Focusing on the entrepreneur rather than the technology, the program is a treasure trove of talent, providing unparalleled mentorship, expert guidance and timely support to entrepreneurs as they develop their ventures.
“What differentiated the BCIC Mentor Program from the countless other ‘leadership’ seminars or sessions was the focus on the company as an entrepreneurial endeavor and its ability to match us wit the right expertise,” says Jim. “The Mentor Program’s been an amazing asset to Kashoo’s growth as a company.”
Equally amazing is the fact that Kashoo is currently the most downloaded iPad accounting app in Apple’s AppStore. Over 50,000 small businesses, accountants and bookkeepers across more than 150 countries are signed up.
It’s proof positive that going all-in on the emergence of the “always on, always connected” entrepreneur is the way of the future.
“We’re genuinely fanatical about small business accounting,” Jim states. “And we’re true believers in the rise of the mobile entrepreneur. Being able to run your business from anywhere, anytime is a theme that’s going to continue to change the way we work. We believe tablets are—and will increasingly continue to be—a mandatory piece of small business hardware.”
He laughs, “And the best part is, all we’ve accomplished has been in the face of folks saying, ‘People will never do their accounting on the iPad!’”
