Prototyping
The prototype is the first version of the actual product. It may not have all the features you're envisioning, but it's the very first real life version of your solution for early stage demonstration purposes. Build your prototype to prove, technically, that you can do what you say you can do.
Why is it important?
Developing a prototype will help to identify any issues with design early on and can lead to improvements in manufacturing the product or device. Having a visual representation of a product can also help to spark marketing ideas and clarify patentable details.
